7 Reasons Why Writing an eBook Should be a Priority

Entrepreneurs are finding out that writing an ebook offers them some high-return benefits for the amount of work that goes into producing one. While writing a quality ebook obviously important, if you know how to use it the gains will far outweigh the costs. Writing an ebook is a proven winner, and doing so should be one of your top priorities in the next 2-4 weeks. Here’s what it will do for you.

1. Makes You an Expert

Do you think you know your business well? Explain the details of it to another person either verbally or in writing, and the exercise will grow or solidify your knowledge like nothing else. As you write you will be researching areas that you are not confident about, expanding your understanding, producing a more valuable product, leading to greater authority in your field. That’s capital you can take straight to the bank.

2. Position Yourself as an Expert

Having a quality ebook out on your chosen subject will produce respect from those who read it – and even those who see you’ve written one but never read it! There’s a clear linguistic connection between the words author and authority! People prefer learning from, and purchasing from, authorities on the subject rather than neophytes. Make yourself the go-to/buy-from resource!

3. Develop Profitable Loyalty

When visitors to your site download your ebook or special report it gives you the opportunity to capture their contact information since they have to opt-in to receive the book. This allows you to continue to market to them, offering value that will bring them back to your site again and again, eventually taking other action steps you offer that will turn into profit.

4. Open Doors for Referrals and Opportunities

When you get an ebook out into circulation often others will refer new business to you, leading to sales. Others who now view you as an expert might approach you with some opportunities that will have the potential to be very lucrative. An ebook puts you on a higher playing field where the potential benefits are greater.

5. Promote your Existing Business or Brand

A well-produced ebook can be an extended marketing brochure for your business. In the text, follow the reliable guide of presenting a problem, discussing solutions, choosing the best solution, and then steering the readers to your products and services as the best means of obtaining that solution. Be sure to pack the ebook full of interesting and helpful information. And make sure it is well written. If you don’t have the time or talent to write it with near-professional flair, hire someone to write it for you. An ebook that reads poorly will perform poorly, and your image, brand and business might suffer.

6. Add a Profit Stream

While some give away their ebooks, others make a business of selling theirs, or at least add it to their existing products for sale. Quality ebooks sell for between $19 and $79, and sometimes more. If you use a resource like Clickbank to get a host of affiliates selling your ebook, the profit numbers can be outstanding!

7. Provide a Product with Low Costs to You

Creating a quality ebook takes a good software program in which to produce it, one capable of professional-quality graphics. After that, there are NO printing costs, storage costs, or delivery costs, setting it apart from a printed book. And here’s the phenomenal part of selling an ebook: Make it once and sell it again and again! You can’t do that with cars, apple pies, or premium cigars. The profit margins are phenomenal, too!

There is no downside to crafting a quality ebook. You will be better for it, you’ll have something to sell or use to market what you do sell, and gain the respect of the niche in which you market. Start setting aside time to gather your thoughts, outline your book, and make it a reality!

I’ve often thought of writing an ebook but never got around to doing it. These are some great tips as to push me to take some action with it. My question is what are some of the best ways to market your ebook and get people to read it without breaking the bank?

Hi there Jason…pretty good follow up question! There’s a few ways to market your ebook but what you need to do is get people to trust your authority and really want the ebook, which you can do by releasing excerpts and sharing bits and pieces, sort of like giving them a preview. Getting reviews and testimonies from other well known and reliable authorities is also good, as well as posting posting user reviews. You basically want a potential reader to trust your product. Also, a good landing page for your ebook makes a difference!

Hey Tom, Love this one. I am actually writing an ebook to offer in exchange for an email address right now. Its true what you say – when you have a good ebook people refer their followers to you because you are the percieved expert.

Makes perfect sense if you are really passionate about something, or you know a lot about a topic to write an ebook or do a video series.

An ebook can open so many doors – it gives you more opportunities. For example you can get speaking gigs elaborating on the topic of the ebook.

Great tips I enjoyed them :)

It’s all about branding and building the expert status. How good does it sound to say “I wrote an ebook that was downloaded a thousand times”? This makes me want to write something now.

to-do-list. However, I am still trying to get more exposure in the blogging world before I actually launch the e-book. I think credibility will play a role in whether anyone will read your e-book. :)

    • Tom Walker

A good point, Mandeep. It is a really good idea to get established first…you need to have a solid base to work from.
