7 Great Ways for Entrepreneurs to Fight Email Overload

For most entrepreneurs, email management is nothing short of an art form. Yet, regardless of the countless hours that go into regaining a sense of control, often times many are left with an exhausting feeling of overload upon review of their email inbox. For those that are willing to invest time hunting down an effective solution, there are numerous options to make email overload, spam and message prioritization, problems of the past.

For example, spam and unwanted email can be dealt with by cancel membership websites and software. To assist in your effort, I have aggregated and summarized a bit of the landscape, all with the hope that you will find the solution(s) that provide you with the most time to attend to all of the other important aspects of your business.

Sanebox

Sanebox prioritize your messages in an attempt to “save you time and frustration.” Sanebox will create a new @SaneLater folder in your inbox containing messages that it believes can wait for later. As you drag messages into and out of this folder it begins to distinguish messages that are important from those that are unimportant.

Otherinbox Organizer

Organizer reduces spam by filtering all incoming messages, and “deals with the commercial email and social networking messages that you do want” by creating categorized subfolders with your emails sorted into them.

Xobni

Sometimes it is hard to put a face to every email you receive. After all, who wants to spend the time friending and following every person that sends you a message? If you are looking to avoid this hassle and gain insight on the relationship history you have with those you’ve emailed, I’d suggest you check out Xobni.

Emailga.me

If you are looking for a fun way to clear your Gmail inbox, then The Email Game just might be the perfect tool for you. As a player you are awarded points for taking action on the email in your inbox within your given time limit (whether that be deleting it, forwarding it or responding to it). This is a great way to perfect your quick response.

Zeromail

Zeromail automatically filters email newsletters, notifications and group posts into their own section of your inbox. Social profiles are then built around your email contacts enabling you to instantly know who is writing to you. Zeromail also has an integrated to-do list function that allows you to “turn your email into a task and be reminded.”

Liaise

What if you could automatically capture critical information in business emails and easily transform them into actionable items and reports. If you tend to collaborate with others on projects via email, I would suggest to check Liase.com out right now.

Courteous.ly

Do you think it would save time and stress if those around you knew what your current email situation was? Perhaps you should check out courtesous.ly, and automate the process of informing others when your email load is light, medium or high.

Do these email services make the cut? Are there any other email startups that you would recommend to your fellow entrepreneurs?

Awesome post bro! Email overload is a disease if I may say! It kills faster than marijuana :) Another company that’s trying to fight email overload is http://www.swipdosh.com Thanks so much for sharing. Have fun!

I’ll definitely have to check out SwipDosh. I went to their site but only found a signup to beta testing they are doing. I’m definitely curious about what solution(s) they have for email overload. I went ahead and signed up and will report back when I gain some insight into how they resolve this problem.

      Cheers,

Great comparison with marijuana meaning it is even deadlier for entrepreneurs. Good thing really there are ways to manage emails already to control overload and too much headaches.

      • http://moderncommunicator.com David Guzman

Haha, kudos to Samuel for that unique comparison. Email overload definitely has a tendency to “kill” any and all free time if it isn’t handled properly. : )

Some very useful information on email management packages – thanks!

As an email etiquette expert I have spent the last 12 years working with many different types of organisations – big and small, national and international – to help improve their use of email.

Hundreds of companies have asked me to train their staff on how to get better results from their email. I have devised some simple but effective email etiquette tips which will improve the results you achieve with your emails.

Email is a fantastic medium – when used correctly. Email is a great way of communicating with large numbers of people and disseminating information to a wide audience at the touch of a button. We can connect with people all over the world and it has the capacity to make us more efficient and improve business results.

However it is this fast and informal nature of email which sometimes creates problems – and creates more work for senders and recipients alike.

Email should be like making a cup of coffee. It takes a few simple steps to achieve a great cup and we do it so often that it becomes second nature. And we do the same simple steps every time – not just some of the time or when it is convenient!

So really what I am saying is that it is only by changing our human behaviour around email that we will ever truly beat email overload.

    Hi,

There is another method to deal with emailing overload. This method is simpler than you think. The only thing you have to do is to throw away (without reading) all emails that do not deserve to be read. ¿Not many? Think twice. Be honest. A huge % of the emails you receive all through the day are not worth it.

    Thanks for your info,

    Salva

      Hi Salvador,

That is definitely true, you could opt to simply throw emails away every day. I do it, and I am fairly certain that most do as well – at least to a certain extent. In all practicality, it helps to find solutions (such as the ones above) that help you avoid spending too much time sifting through everything and pressing the delete button.

Rapportive is an awesome addon too. Sometimes you don’t know who you’re talking to.. That helps to identify if the time you spend on the reply is worth or it :)

    • http://moderncommunicator.com David Guzman

Totally agree, Kristina. Completely forgot to add on Rapportive – I’ve used it and love it!

It’s always nice to be able to instantaneously connect after communicating with someone via email. Whether it be through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or another social channel, it always helps to reach out and strengthen relationships with those around you.
