February 14. It’s a date that fills a lot of people with all sorts of emotions. Some look forward to the day, believing it’s the best time for them to show how crazy they are for the one that’s got their hearts.

February 14.

It’s a date that fills a lot of people with all sorts of emotions. Some look forward to the day, believing it’s the best time for them to show how crazy they are for the one that’s got their hearts. Some absolutely dread it, thinking that it’s nothing but a sad reminder of how alone and miserable they are.

For the entrepreneurially minded, it’s the perfect occasion for business opportunities. There’s no harm in cashing in on the love craze. You get paid, while the customers get… erm… a very romantic time together with their partners.

1. Valentine’s Day Card Printing

It’s a tradition that dates back as far as the 15th century, growing more and more popular in Europe until the 19th century when it grew into an entire industry. The fact that it has survived for that long without any indication that it’ll go away even in this 21st century probably means that it works.

Of course, there’s no competing right now with Hallmark which has a stranglehold on all greeting cards. What a smart upstart entrepreneur could do is to focus on making personalized Valentine’s cards instead of churning out generic mass-produced cards.

Considering how everyone else seems to be getting mostly the same cards on this occasion, it doesn’t feel truly special anymore. Giving a custom Valentine’s card shows a little more effort on the part of the giver, and it’s a sentiment that can be capitalized on.

It will require a respectable level of artistic ability, so it’s best to hire designers to do the job. Take orders in advance so they can be worked on immediately, and that they’ll be ready when the 14th of February rolls around. This can also be a suitable supplement to a custom business card printing operation.

2. Chocolates

Although giving chocolates on Valentine’s Day doesn’t have as long a history as Valentine’s cards, it has nevertheless become part of the entire tradition to treat loved ones to these sweet delights. They’re sweet, they look very nice organized in a box, and they also help make people feel good, thanks to the phenylethylamine found in them. What’s not to like?

The concept of putting them all in a nice heart-shaped box for Valentine’s Day was introduced by the famous chocolate company Cadbury in the 1860s. Today, it’s one of the top Valentine’s gifts with about $1.5 billion spent on the special candies in 2012.

With all that cash in the market, selling chocolates is an obvious money-making route. But just like with Valentine’s cards, you need to offer something unique to stand out among the multiple confectionery stores out there.

Again, customization is key to having financial success as a startup in this business. It will take some skill and an eye for aesthetics to create such delicious and good-looking confectioneries. You also have to take the design of the boxes into consideration, because presentation is just as important as the taste.

3. Matching Shirts

If you think going with what’s been tried and tested for years isn’t an exciting business model, you can try capitalizing on the bonds already made between people in relationships with matching shirts.

This idea is all about letting couples tell the world how much they’re into each other, and February 14 is the best day for them to express those feelings. You can spin this in a number of ways to cater to a wider audience:

There’s the simple matching t-shirt idea where you put the same design on both shirts. This lets both partners show how alike they are, from their mindset to their tastes down to their own style.

Another route to take is to create a design that will only make sense when the two shirts are next to each other. It highlights how well the couple fits together, showing their differences and how they complement each other.

Lastly, you can just come up with designs that don’t necessarily have to be totally similar or complementary, but carry the same tone or message. This is for the couples who aren’t overly cheesy about their love, but still want to make a statement that they’re together for good.

4. Delivery Service

If you can pursue any of the three previous ideas, you can take it to the next level by offering a way of delivering the products to your customers’ doorsteps. Providing this service opens up your range of customers.

Not everyone can just drop by in a brick-and-mortar store, and there are situations where distance can prove to be a problem. With this service, your business can be the bridge between lovers’ hearts separated by circumstance.

It’s also what some people are looking for, considering the amount of would-be Casanovas out there wanting to surprise the objects of their affections.

And if you’re only selling your products online (and that’s usually the case these days for small businesses), then it should go without saying.

5. Matching Tattoos

This is in the same vein as the matching shirts idea but taken to the extreme. And what is love but an extreme dedication of one’s self to another? So in the Day of Hearts, there probably isn’t a bigger way of showing your love than getting matching tattoos.

Make no mistake about it—getting inked is a very big decision for couples, considering a tattoo is permanent for most people. There’s absolutely no way of guaranteeing a couple would still be a couple in the future, so understand the hesitance a lot of people will have in taking this service.

But it’s the season where people do a lot of crazy things for their lovers, so if they’re all for it, indulge their preferred demonstration of their commitment. You can sell them on the idea that even if their relationship falls apart, it still happened and that the mark left behind serves a purpose of reminding them of the good times shared with a special person.

Like the ideas for the matching shirts concept, the designs can just be similar in tone without having to be complemented by one another. This can take care of the potential awkwardness if the couple does break up.

Getting into the business of love is much like falling in love. It’s an exciting venture that can pay dividends if you’re committed and creative, but there’s always a risk of failing with the coming and going of the seasons.

Life is too short to spend it in a financial struggle. In an era where contribution is currency, you can be free to follow your passions. It’s OK to quit your corporate job and live the life you want. But first you’ll need a plan. It’s a new year; follow these tips to make it a good one.

Explore the Internet

There are plenty of ways to increase your freedom and earn a respectable income. The Internet alone provides insurmountable opportunity. It’s a great way to interact with people from around the globe. Whether you are looking for inspirational ideas or simply generating sales leads, creating a website, branding a blog, and building your social media presence are great starting points.

Consider A Freedom Business

A freedom business must meet the following criteria: First, you must be able to run it remotely. Second, it should have the potential to earn at least $10,000 per month. It’s ideal if you create a business you can run in your spare time. Your income should not be tied to your time; that is slavery, not freedom. And finally, you should start the business with $500 or less.

Some examples of freedom businesses include: money-making websites, selling digital products, forms of freelancing, and affiliate marketing.

Blogging Can Be Beneficial

Establish yourself as an information leader by positioning yourself as an expert blogger. A blog is the central hub for your audience and brand; it should include links to your related websites and social media platforms. To construct a responsive audience, you can use various traffic channels to drive readers/customers to your site, including an e-mail list, Kindle books, guest appearances, and social media. Your blog should tie everything together for your audience.

Create a Constant Flow

It’s important that you continuously push out quality content to build your audience. If the work is centered on your passion, then this part should be easy. It shouldn’t feel like work.

If your income is tied to the amount of time that you spend on your business, then you are not truly free. As your brand and audience grows, your income should grow without you. For example, when you publish a book or a product, sales come in whether you are working or not. You should have an e-mail list that sends out sales messages automatically. When you publish a book on Amazon, people can purchase it whether your show up to work or not.

Let Your Passion Lead You

Passion is the most important thing when maintaining a blog or business. If you’re not passionate about a particular topic, then blogging about won’t be your bliss. That’s not to say that there are no alternate money-making outlets that will make you happy. Some people prefer to create an e-commerce store or buy websites that are already producing income. There are ways for everyone to be free as long as he or she believes in the brand and has the drive to execute its mission.

In conclusion, the most important aspect of a freedom business is defining what you want out of life and then creating an income stream that pays for that. Blogging is the vehicle that many will take, but it does not have to be your path. Implement a strategy. And aggressively accomplish your goals.

Millennials, also known as Generation Y, are entering the workplace in record numbers. They are idealistic, diverse, digitally-enabled, social and perhaps most importantly, ambitious. While this is promising for the future of our industries and innovation across the board, many managers and companies are still trying to figure out the best way to maximize millennials.

In the infographic below, you will see that entreprneurship is at an all-time high thanks to people like the members of the Epic Launch community. But being an entrepreneur is often not sustainable or possible over the course of an entire career. That said, you should never ditch the entrepreneurial mindset. Finding an organization that will allow you to grow and innovate is essential because let’s face it… money is a small part of the big picture anymore.

Here are some things that companies should be doing to maximize yours and other millannial’s potential:

Empower the entrepreneurial spirit

- 92% of surveyed 21-24 year-olds said entrepreneurship education was vital in the new economy

- 30% started a business in college

Provide quality feedback

- 80% of millennials said they would prefer feedback in real time rather than via traditional performance reviews

Let them grow

- 65% of millennials said personal development was the most influential factor in their current job

To learn more about the who, how and why of leading Gen Y, take a look below at the infographic my team at MBA@UNC produced in partnership with the Young Entrepreneurs Council and their #FixYoungAmerica campaign.

What is the main reason most people want to start a business? It’s okay to say it: to make money! You don’t have to be ashamed of wanting to make a few more dollars for yourself through your business. With that being said, you can also use your money-making venture as a vehicle to make a difference in people’s lives and in the community. One great opportunity I’ve had with my business, Molding Box, is teaming with the Utah Defendant/Offender Workforce Development (UDOWD) Task Force to staff my business and give people a second chance to contribute to society and regain their lives. Here is one example you can learn from to use your business to help your community.

The Benefits Go Both Ways

In partnering with UDOWD, we have found some of our best workers to date. The people we have been lucky enough to employ want to change their lives. They are on track for rehabilitation and are willing to go the extra mile. Their dedication to the company is much higher than those who received job placement from local job posts and hiring agencies. The success of this is not only great for the people we employ, but it’s great PR for the company. People are always interested in how it works, and they want to learn about what obstacles we have overcome as a team. A great story, in particular, is that of one of our managers. He recently had a speaking engagement with UDOWD; it has been his third or fourth thus far, and his speech is always a positive that Molding Box can lean on. He’s become the poster child for the program in the Utah division.

Choosing Which Program to Work With

The reason I chose UDOWD was because, at first, we thought we would get a tax break. That may not sound very philanthropic, but it’s honest. Then, once we started the program, we found that the workers were loyal and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the workforce again. We also learned that if we treated people from the program like humans, and not like statistics, they would go above and beyond.

It’s Important to Become Involved in the Community

Being involved locally helps, because you never know who someone knows. When people hear what UDOWD does and how we help with them, they are naturally drawn to the program. We’ve been featured in several local papers and advertisements because of our work with UDOWD. In turn, we get PR, and even more people want to become involved with us and the program. Getting involved locally shows the human side of the machine we call business, and ultimately, becomes a sales pitch for Molding Box. At the end of the day, our business is founded on relationships, and not a specific product.

Changing the Culture of Your Business

Working in, and with, the community advances a positive culture within our business. I recently had a member of the sales team send me an email saying how happy he was working for a company that supports good causes. People want to feel that they are making a difference, and by working for a company that they know is making a difference, they more easily get through the tough times at work. That good feeling makes them want to go that much further to help us succeed. Being a new company, and working alongside strong brands with charity work, shows the recipients that we’re on the same level and can contribute just as much with our smaller wallets. It’s all about perception and the effectiveness of the contribution.

Take our work with UDOWD as an example of how working in, and with the community, is good for both you and the people you help. Remember, it’s okay that money is your main priority, but you can also help better the community you serve through your business. As the community gets stronger, so does your business.

The Israeli startup scene is only getting stronger and stronger. After taking a look at many of the up and coming Israeli startups, here are 10 that seem very promising.

Parts of this were originally posted on Business Insider and reposted here with Ben Lang‘s permission.

1. Onavo

“Control your data, control your costs.”

Possibly one of the most useful apps you’ll ever download, Onavo monitors your data usage and easily lets you cut down the usage. Just a few weeks ago they raised a whopping $10M.

2. Any.DO

“Make things happen.”

Elegance and simplicity are what make this to-do list app the very best one out there. Maybe that’s why it was downloaded over 500,000 times in it’s first 30 days.

3. Wibbitz

“The new visual experience for your site!”

Very neat service that transforms text content into interactive short videos. After adding it’s platform to Wibiya, the service has been steadily growing.

4. Tawkon

”Now keep talking.”

As radiation from cellphones becomes a hotter topic, this app will shine. Tawkon lets its users know how much radiation is being emmitted from their phone and how to avoid it.

5. BillGuard

“Protect your money.”

This web app is already saving its users plenty of money. Through sophisticated algorithms they are able to detect fraud and hidden charges on your credit card.

6. Shaker

“Where things happen.”

Shaker most recently won TechCrunch Disrupt, a highly coveted competition. They created a beautiful virtual world on Facebook.

7. Bizzabo

“Networking made easy.”

Bizzabo is without a doubt the best networking app out there. This app is becoming a must use at events of all kinds.

8. Magisto

“Magical video editing.”

Thinking of starting a new business in the United Arab Emirates? If so, you’re already aware that it’s a reasonably absorbing process. A key part to this procedure will be setting up and effectively managing a business banking account. Read on for a quick look at what to expect from setting up an account and how online banking is a great way to organize your company’s finances.

For over 30 years the regulatory establishment has been the United Arab Emirates Central Bank. There are over 47 commercial banks that operate in the region, with 27 of them being under foreign management. Most banks offer savings and deposit accounts as well as loans and credit cards. Online banking is also available, allowing you to conveniently transfer money, pay bills and check balances at the click of a button.

Business bank accounts from HSBC and many others offer numerous online banking benefits. In addition to instantly viewing past account and credit card transactions, you’ll also have access to the principal amount, maturity date and interest details on all fixed deposits. Online business banking also allows you to obtain any loan account details including installment dates, consolidation status and interest rates. Internet banking also makes it easy to stay on top of prevailing exchange rates of major currencies.

Setting up an account with a UAE bank requires you have a residence visa or a residency application in the works. You will also need to have your original passport, copies of your visa and personal details from that passport and a No Objections Certificate (NOC) from a sponsor. Be sure to investigate the details of your account as some banks insist that your business banking ledger maintains a minimum balance. This can range anywhere from 2,000 dirhams for a deposit account to almost 10,000 dirhams for a checking account.

Once you’re settled, you’ll be able to set up various transactions of routine business related expenses like energy bills or equipment registrations. Many banks have partnered with the UAE government and offer online payment options, most often for free or a nominal fee. There are more than 25 service providers in the region with 140 online services. This can be especially helpful when wanting to avoid the congestion of municipal offices you may need to deal with for getting your business underway, particularly for land appraisal, vehicle permits or building fees.

International banks in UAE usually insist upon margins but luckily there is solid financial support for import and export operations through commercial banks. These rates, along with any additional resources that may be available for business assistance, can also be monitored through online banking.

The UAE dirham is unrestrictedly exchangeable and is directly connected to the US dollar, the legal tender that has been used to quantify oil prices. The UAE has no exchange controls and has kept a steady exchange rate since 1977 at US $1 = Dh 3.675. The UAE Central Bank monitors all transfers and are required to report exchanges above a particular amount. Bear in mind that any international transfer you make exceeding 2,000 dirham might require that you show a current passport.

In today’s economy, every dollar counts and any investment must return measurable benefits to your business. Because of this, you need to strategically focus your marketing efforts to achieve the biggest bang for the lowest buck. In evaluating your business and which marketing efforts will best benefit your company, consider trade show exhibiting.

There will be some initial costs that may seem overwhelming at first, especially if this is your first time. However, exhibiting, if done right, will be an investment that pays off exponentially in ways both seen and unseen.

The Seen

Sales

If your product or service is one that you can “sell” during a trade show, you should ensure that you have a point of purchase at your trade show exhibit. While you have people’s attention at your display and have them excited about your company, make the sell right then before your competitors can steal them away. The nature of the personal interaction that comes from trade shows provides the perfect opportunity to close deals and make sells that would not have normally occurred.

Contacts

A trade show creates the ideal environment for collecting contact information. Attendees have chosen to attend the event, so they are open-minded and ready to hear what you have to say. Because of this, they are much more inclined to give you their information for a follow-up. It is also advantageous to offer some kind of contest or give-away as an incentive to leave you with their information.

Referrals

Even if an attendee is not personally in need of what your company offers, chances are they know someone who would be interested. The benefit of being able to talk and develop that personal relationship with such a diverse gathering of potential customers is that you reap the benefits of their social network, as well. If you make a good impression, then they will likely refer people to you and you to them.

The Unseen

Creating Buzz

If you invest in a quality and creative display, you will get people talking about your business. Take advantage of the services of a good exhibit company that will work with you to understand you needs. This will allow them to ensure that your presence at the trade show is memorable and unique. By doing this, you will stand out above your competition, make a lasting impression with your customers, and stake a claim in your market. Pro tip: If you don’t have the budget to purchase a trade show exhibit, many exhibit companies have rental exhibits that you can use for a fraction of the price. This will still give you that professional appearance without the high upfront cost.

Branding

The value of branding your company cannot be underestimated. The more your product or service is recognized and associated with your company, the more powerful your presence is in your market. At a trade show, people have the chance to see your logo and colors reinforced throughout your display, to associate you (and the impression you make) with your company, and to take home a giveaway with your branding as a continual reminder. It is also critical to continue branding after the event through your social media avenues and online marketing. Checkout the post “Using Online Brand Management to Help Your Small Business Succeed” on this site for some great info on branding that directly translates to trade show exhibiting.

Research

If you are displaying at a trade show, then so are your competitors. Where else will you have an opportunity to scope out your competition at one time in one location? You can see what they’re offering, how attendees are responding, and then reevaluate your approach in order to stand out above them, both during the event and after. On this same note, you have a chance to discuss with your customers and research their needs in order to tailor your services and marketing to most effectively reach them.

If done correctly, exhibiting at a trade show is a wise and profitable investment for any business owner. Even if not seen immediately, you will reap benefits during and after the event in ways that other marketing efforts fail or fall short. Consider the possibilities of this strategic and successful method of reaching your market!

This is something that isn’t immediately obvious to people who are just learning their way around the online economies, but, no one in their right mind reveals their most profitable secrets.

This is something that isn’t immediately obvious to people who are just learning their way around the online economies, but…. no one in their right mind reveals their most profitable secrets. Why would they? That would surely blunt their competitive advantage!

As a matter of fact, they aren’t even selling the good stuff. However, you can actually get it for free: it’s readily available for anyone who knows where to look. After all, the best place to hide a tree is within a forest. The best place to hide valuable information… in a sea of information.

Do you know how most Internet gurus make money?

If you’re still new to Internet Marketing and on-line earnings, this may come to you as a surprise… a shock, even. But truth of the matter is that most Internet gurus make a living… by teaching others how they are doing it.

And more than often, this is actually their main source of income – especially with the most maven-like entrepreneurs. They’re earning big money selling you an e-book that tells you how they make money; which is by charging you money to get their e-book that teaches you how it’s done. How is that for self-recursive redundancy?

It’s not they’re exactly liars either… many of those people are indeed making big bucks. But when you buy into their $50 worth of “insider’s info”, you soon realize it’s essentially a beat-around-the-bush kind of story, rather than a practical down-to-the-nitty-gritty of what you actually have to do to be successful online.

They really aren’t telling you any secrets in those reports they’re selling: They’re just re-hashing free information that’s available anywhere, and re-packaging it in attractive formats. Nothing wrong with it, either… it’s called “marketing”.

But you know what the real irony is, here? You can actually learn those secrets from them, without spending a cent. You just have to know how to look for the good stuff, and where.

Take the red pill and learn how to read between the lines.

There’s an old ZEN saying that goes more or less like so: “don’t look at my finger, look at the moon it’s pointed at”. The same principle should apply when it comes to actually learning with the Internet gurus. Do not focus on what they’re saying; do not let yourself get caught up in those sales pitches.

Instead, look at what they’re actually doing between the lines. Look at how they’ve designed their websites, and how they’ve structured those sales funnels, and how they are enticing people to join their newsletters. Let yourself be taken in, but remain an observer. Do not allow yourself to be engaged in their clever sales copy. Learn from it.

Start looking at the headlines they write, and the kind of angles they use in those sales letters. Pay attention to these small details which are actually laid out in the open, for everyone who knows how to look! Learn from what the gurus do, and never mind what they say.

The last decade the has Internet changed everything about how human beings live and interact. We now have the whole world at the click of a mouse. It has also revolutionized the way people work and do business.

The last decade the has Internet changed everything about how human beings live and interact. We now have the whole world at the click of a mouse. It has also revolutionized the way people work and do business. A few years ago, running a business online was still considered something wild and risky, only to be tried by computer whizzes and tech-savvy entrepreneurs. Today, more and more average folks are deciding to start their own businesses online. Why is that? Here are the advantages of starting a business online.

Unbelievably Quick Start-Up

It takes months and a lot of hassle to get an offline business started and even years to make it break even, but online business to get started is just a matter of having your website designed and hosted. Once your site is created, it’s online and ready to get promoted. Now, anyone in the web can access it. In the online world, things happen much faster than in the traditional.

Almost Zero Start-Up Costs

What stops most people from starting their own businesses is the prohibitive cost. It takes much more money than anybody has lying around to start a business. However, you can start a business online with just a computer, an internet connection and a little software, which in some cases can be obtained for free. When I was still working in the corporate world as a financial advisor, I would often speak with local businessmen who wanted to get a loan to get their venture started or others who just wanted to increase their cash flow through a loan. Almost every one of them was in mortgage debt. They would constantly buy to let mortgages.

Much of the expense of running an online business comes in the form of advertising. It’s not cheap if you let others do it for you. However, if you’re smart about it, you can advertise your business all over the Net for absolutely nothing as long as you are willing to work hard. There are proven techniques for getting your website noticed and they don’t have to cost you anything. When I started my own venture of software reviews and coupons site, which now makes me a fulltime job income, I was totally unaware of free promotion techniques and Google rankings. Since I launched it last autumn I ‘ve made over 70 guest posts and 1,000 comments in hundreds of blogs and forums and with the right on-page and off-page SEO I managed to get ranked first page for my niche keywords.

No More Day Job

Running an online business, won’t give big money instantly but, once the cash starts rolling in, you can kiss your day job goodbye. This means no more slaving for somebody else, no more racing to the office each morning in rush hour traffic, and no more problems with annoying coworkers. You can work in your pajamas any time it suits you and be your own boss. It took me 3 months to get my first dime but I had cut my costs substantially since I quit my day job. I have reduced the monthly phone bill to half and gas expenses to a quarter cause I don’t have to call the so called-prospective clients and trying to sell myself by phone. I don’t have to drive back and forth to the office, customers or the banks, pay office rent and parking lot (Let alone the parking fines). All this time I used to waste on that kind of clutter, I now give to grow and expand my ventures.

A Company Of One

You can run a successful and lucrative online business without hiring any staff at all. This cuts down on headaches tremendously and also saves costs. Another great thing about running your own company online is that you keep all of the profits. You can simply outsource the tasks you need done or hire a virtual assistant to help out, and then you can manage all of its operations yourself. I am currently in the phase of automating my first website by outsourcing certain tasks to others. As a result I can focus on more strategic activities. That’s how I managed to start a second website last month.

Worldwide Reach

Small businesses operate locally (at first), but as soon as an online business is live, it has a worldwide reach. People from all over the world can buy your products and services 24 hours a day. This increases your profit potential by leaps and bounds. You can also automate the entire payment process after some time, so that you can be earning money and work less.

Time Is Money

Working online saves you a lot of time as well. For example, you don’t have to go from house to house distributing brochures. There’s no more morning commute, which means that you cut as much as an hour of wasted time out of your day. Then, you can spend your time focusing on making money. Sometimes people in the corporate world confuse the state of busy with that of being productive. They are two totally different terms. If you spend your morning answering stupid emails or calling those prospective customers for the 5th time or driving your car , then you are merely being busy. You end up feeling emotionally drown but you have not produced anything at all.

Technology Is Incredible

Once you get started and find out all the different technological possibilities there are out there, you’ll be amazed at what you can do. There is software that allows you to do just about anything business-related, and this saves you money and time. You can automate tasks that you’d otherwise have to hire people to do. Even if you’re not a high tech person, everything is designed to be user-friendly and easy for non-techies as well.

All of this is making starting an online business easier and more attractive. It’s not just for high-tech marketers or computer geniuses anymore! It may seem difficult to get started at first, but stick with it and all of this new technology will become second nature. When you get your first online payment, you’ll be hooked! And don’t forget: be productive, no just busy.

What are some other reasons entrepreneurs prefer online businesses?

Getting a clean sale is the cornerstone of any business, so it is really important that an entrepreneur gets the job done right if they want their business to succeed. A clean sale is an effective sale that is smooth and simple every step of the way and everyone is happy with the end result. Here are 10 tips for making that clean sale happen for you.

1. Create a contact list.

Sit down and come up with a list of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else you think might be interested in the product or service you are providing. Don’t worry if this list is a bit short. As your reputation spreads, word-of-mouth which will help grow your contact list.

2. Fine Tune Your Sales Pitch

Come up with a great sales pitch and contact the people you’ve put on your list via phone or e-mail. Build yourself up and really sell the benefits of your product or service. Let potential buyers know the benefits of your services and why your prices are more than fair compared to any competition. Offer to send further information on your products. Create a sense of urgency toward the end of your sales pitch, especially when the customer is receptive. Make remarks such as, “I know you’ll want this as fast as possible, so let’s figure out the specifics.” and “What date would you need your order delivered?” If they seem unsure, finish your communication by saying something similar to, “I’ll let you think about it and get in touch with you again in a few days.” Do as you’ve promised and call them back. If they say no, ask if they can provide contact information for someone who they think would be interested in your services. Don’t be afraid of the word “no.” Not everyone will need your services. When you don’t make a sale, don’t take it personally. The customer is not rejecting you – they simply don’t require what you are selling.

3. Get The Message Out

Get out of your house or place of business and talk about your services. Walk around your neighborhood (or drive, if walking isn’t feasible) and talk to neighbors and nearby businesses. People who won’t respond to e-mail and phone calls will often respond to someone who cares enough to give a face-to-face sales pitch.

4. Listen as Well as You Talk

You will often get potential customers who listen very politely even after already deciding to say no. Take a break in your sales pitch to ask questions. If it’s obvious that you aren’t going to get anywhere, move on to more likely prospects.

5. Know Your Product or Service Inside-Out

You should know every function and possibility for what you’re selling. When you’re an expert on your product, it shows. Buyers see reliability and trustworthiness when you know what you’re talking about.

6. Be Upbeat but Sincere

When selling, be cheerful and complimentary. Smile and make eye contact. Avoid being insincere, though. Be ready to bargain, but don’t get taken for a cleaning yourself. Right before closing a deal, some customers will attempt to get just a little more for their money. Sellers are often tempted to give in because they’re so close to making their sale and fear that the customer might back out if they say no. If you can fill their request without hurting your own pocketbook, do so, but don’t let a customer take advantage of you.

7. Celebrate for Yourself!

When you have achieved your first sale, make noise about it! Frame a copy of your first payment. Create a press release or put a notice on your website saying that you have officially gone into business for yourself.

8. Use People’s Opinions

Ask your clients or customers for reviews of your product or service. Put the glowing reviews in your literature and on the front page of your website. Consider putting a form on your site so that reviews can be submitted online. While reviews can seem like a small part of a business, they have the ability to make or break your sales. They can also encourage you to do your very best.

9. Pay Attention to How You’re Selling

Keep an upbeat attitude and enjoy yourself. Meeting a grumpy or detached salesperson doesn’t inspire confidence or desire to buy the product they are selling. If you enjoy yourself, it will reflect back onto the service or product you are trying to sell. Buyers are more likely to trust salespeople who are happy, encouraging, and honest.

10. Stay Motivated with Your Sales Plan

Once your business is up and running, don’t lose speed. Keep networking and talking with potential clients. Don’t let your goals stagnate, but don’t set them so high that you get frustrated, either. Continue to set small goals for yourself and keep your products and services fresh for the public.
