Entrepreneurial Mindset for Social Networking

A big question when it comes to social media marketing and social networks in general is “How do I make money with social networking?”

The simple answer to this is as follows, this is how much money I try to make with social networking:

$0.00

You might see this and think, what? But it’s true, when it comes to social networking sites I try to make zero dollars. You cannot approach social networking trying to make money directly from your contacts. In fact, if you try to do so you will come across as “spammy” and a jerk.

Social networking is the doorway to your product/business/blog/website. Use social networking to form relationships with these new contacts and through your interactions you will find like minded individuals with similar goals as you. When you find people with similar mindsets, or needs that you can satisfy, then you can take the relationship to the next level.

    Just to continue the story…

Once their in the door, you offer them a cup of English tea and some biscuits. They enjoy the biscuits so much and decide to take some home with them. On their way home they give your biscuits out to everyone down their street and recommend how great your biscuits were. The next day you wake up and see 5 people knocking on your door hungry for your biscuits…

      Max,

You are so right! People pay thousands of dollars to learn the secret of how to promote and get their “buscuits” known, yet you just leave the secret in a comment!

EXACTLY. You’ve got it down Max, and as word spreads about your hospitality and your awesome tea then the more the connections flow in.

    Nate,

This is the best article and video I have ever seen on how to use and leverage the power of social media/social networking. Everything you said makes complete sense and the using the party analogy made everything click that much more!
Thanks for sharing what you know, it helps!

    Hi Nate,

This video contains the secret sauce to succeeding in social media. I first heard this ‘party’ principle from Perry Belcher – famous Internet Marketer.

I totally agree, and it annoys me when i get spammy inbox messages from people blatantly advertising their stuff to me that I hae no interest in!

Its nice to find people like yourself Nate who know how to market in social media. The ‘house’ analogy is great don’t you think? I beleive that in 5 years most people will have a home online – a blog.

What do you think this whole blogging world will be like in 5 years time Nate and Ben?

Aaron yes! I think I stated in the video that Perry Belcher was my inspiration – the man is a genius when it comes to marketing, all controversy aside he is spot on with his concepts.
