Failure Proof Everything You Do

You never have to fail again. Seriously. From now on, everything you choose to work towards will succeed. Can you imagine?! Here’s a simple truth – failure is just an option. It’s a CHOICE. Sure, an attempt may fail, but you will never fail to achieve a goal until you quit trying, and the audacious never quit trying!

Success

Below are five key steps for failure proofing everything you do moving forward.

Step 1: Only chase goals that you are crazy PASSIONATE about

You have to pick the right goals. Pick the ones that you want deeply in every fiber of your being. Many people choose the wrong goals – someone else’s goals or goals you think you should want. Only choose goals that inspire you, push you beyond your comfort zone, and come from inside you. Make sure your goals are specific and crystal clear.

Here’s a goal I’m uber-passionate about: Build a radically successful service business that allows me to do what I do best (coach and speak on Audacity). My business needs to allow me to work when and where I want while earning a comfortable living for me and my family.

Step 2: Identify your WHY

Most people mistakenly expect the goal itself to be the motivation for working toward it day in and day out. However, it’s the WHY that motivates you. Why do you want to achieve this goal? Identify why achieving this goal is important to you; know what’s in it for you.

My WHY: My business inspires and challenges people to lead extraordinary lives! This is why I do what I do and what keeps me going.

Step 3: Get REAL about what it will take to get the job done

Make sure you are aware of what is required before committing to a goal. Often people look at the brass ring without considering all of the smaller steps that will need to happen first. You don’t have to know HOW you will complete all of these or even have an exhaustive list, but make sure you have a realistic idea of what you are getting yourself into.

My reality check: In addition to mastering my craft, this dream requires that I learn the ins and outs of the coaching industry, the speaking industry, and the self-help expert industry in general. Additionally, I have to learn new skills in marketing, social networking, technology, leadership, and how to run a business.

Step 4: Decide to PERSEVERE

Audacious people never, ever, ever give up. Period. They assume success and trust that they have the power to find a way to achieve their goals. Obstacles and stumbling blocks happen to everyone. Proactively identify obstacles and find tools to help you through them. Decide that you will persevere regardless of the challenges.

My perseverance plan: Building a radically successful business takes time and tenacity. I will also have to put myself out there, make mistakes, learn along the way, and keep going. But I’m absolutely committed to making this happen, so I will never quit.

Step 5: ENVISION success

Too many people skip this step, but it’s crazy important! You need to see yourself achieving your goals. Journal about it, tell people about, blog about it, add it to your vision board – whatever! Use whatever tools you need to really SEE the attainment of your goal.

My vision that keeps me going: I see myself enjoying a cocktail after delivering the closing keynote speech at a national convention. I just autographed 200 copies of my bestselling book to the audience members and now I’m talking to three prospective coaching clients at the bar.

Your turn – put your goals through the five failure-proofing steps. See a difference?

Choosing the crazy passionate goal is sure a must. I experience that it is hard to stick if the goal is only the half-passionate.

    • Coach Jennie

Thanks for your comment, Dana! You are so right. Half-hearted goals get half-hearted attempts. Why do anything that you’re only sort-of-kind-of-maybe excited about? :)

This is totally fantastic! No matter who you are you cannot stop failure. It’s all apart of the learning proccess that you have to go through. Success never comes without failures. There isn’t a single person you can find that could tell you otherwise.

Everyone should follow their passion, because that’s really what’s going to take you the furthest. Anything else you will eventually hit a road block, or slowly lose inspiration. The smartest thing you can do with your life is to follow what your truely passionate about. You never know what great things you may achieve.

Figure out your “why” and then, never stop till you make things happen.

    God bless,

    • Coach Jennie

Thanks, William, for adding your thoughts! I agree wholeheartedly with your assertion: “The smartest thing you can do with your life is to follow what you are truly passionate about.” Well said!

What are you going to never stop doing?

        Hey Jennie,

I never plan to stop writing and inspiring people with the words I write. I feel my passion for writing and there is nothing more that I want to do, besides wake up every day and write. Other people may think of writing as a job, but too me it’s a passion & what makes me happy! ( :

        God bless,

    Great post Jennie! =)

I really agree with choosing a passionate goal that you’re crazy about! Passion gives you a unique voice and drives you to success!

Perseverance is important as well; it’s like the foundation for your passion, and if you don’t have perseverance, your passion will die off.

    Cheers,
    Gloson

    • Coach Jennie

Thanks for weighing in, Gloson! SO TRUE! Nothing is as sad as a dying passion…but it’s ridiculously common. Tenacity is a MUST to ever live your passions.

Step 3 is where so many of us lose it. It’s like we’re trained to take a real tough issue and say, “eh it shouldn’t be so bad”.

    • Coach Jennie

So true, Dennis! Sadly, we’ve become far too comfortable with comfortable. Living Audaciously requires that you work hard…at times very hard. So step 3 is vital! You’ve got to know what lies ahead.

      Thanks for the comment.

    Hi Jenny

without passion for the niche I would have given up at the first hurdle! But with perseverence and patience can see things moving in the right direction.

There are no silver bullets or quick fixes, just hard work and believing that success will come as I work towards it.

    • Coach Jennie

      Well put, Patricia! Well put!

      Thanks for chiming in!

  • Tiana

This is chuck full of aha moments for me. You might think the “why” would be the easiest to answer but sometimes “because I want to” is all that comes to mind. And as I’m envisioning success thoughts of all the things that could go wrong creep in. I’m printing this out as a reminder.

    • Coach Jennie

Thanks for adding your thoughts, Tiana. Such a good point! Lots can go wrong, but you can failure-proof your trajectory if you don’t allow any hiccups to derail you.

Also, make sure you have a “why” that means something to you! You deserve nothing less.

    Hi Jennie,

Awesome list of failure proof tips! It all begins with finding the right target, especially the target at which we are passionate about. Otherwise, even if we work hard, I am sure that we will be wandering all over the places without a proper goal.

I very much liked your emphasis on getting practical. One should always have their personal abilities and other limitations in mind before planning for something.

    Cheers,
    Jane.

    • Coach Jennie

      Hi Jane!

Thanks for your feedback! Yep, I’m all about balancing the dreamy with the practical. One side alone just won’t do! You’ve gotta take the time to know what you are getting yourself into to truly commit to Audacious living.

I love this article Jennie. These are indeed failure proof tips.

I love the fifth tip – Envision Success – you are right, most of us skip this step when this is very important. Envisioning myself in great success encourages me to keep looking forward and be more motivated on pressing on toward achieving my goals.

    • Coach Jennie

I love it, Jasmine! You’ve got to see it to achieve it. One of my favorite questions to ask my clients is: “Where the heck do you think you’re going?” If you don’t know, you’ll never get there.

      Thanks for commenting.
